A very special eco-house designed and supervised by the Austrian architect/artist painter Kurt Anton Hauenschild, member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, built on a land with olive trees, cypress trees and wild plants of Cretan nature.
The two-storey house has a total area of 214 m2; consists of one old, stone building, renovated, and a new three-storey building. The atrium is the central point, from which all the rooms of the house radiate, in a continuum of inside and outside spaces. The living area includes a lounge, and a big dining room connected to a fully fitted kitchen with a breakfast bar. There are two double bedrooms each complete with bathroom, and a studio with a mezzanine bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette with a separate entrance that can be used as a guesthouse.
The house is built with a timber frame and traditional clay brick walls. In order to obtain the Mediterranean character, the exterior walls have a plastered outer skin, on cement-bonded fiber lightweight boards. There are double glazed windows with mosquito blinds throughout and solar panels provide hot water and under floor heating. A wood burning stove is situated at the base of the atrium providing additional heating for both the dining room and the lounge.
The village tavernas and the mini market are 10 minutes away by feet, while the Chania international airport is 25 minutes away by car. The beach of Kalami is only 1 km away, and the long sandy beach of Kalyves, with its crystal clear waters, is approx. 3,5 km away. The distance from the port of Souda is 3 km, and from the Venetian Old Town in Chania is 13 km.
